Hiroji Genda

Laughs all the time - every sentance. From Olivine City. Travels around somewhat aimlessly - only has one badge, but is powerful enough to take on the league. Has four other brothers - Hanshiro, Hyosuke, Heiji and Hokichi - and one sister - Hinami, the only other trainer in the family, and another OC with her own story (that will not be related to this one).

Mayaka Ezakiya

Battle-obsessed. Lives in Violet City. Too young to be a trainer, but has her entire team, movesets and possible natures all planned out. Top of her classes in the Pokemon Academy. I based her on all of the hardcore elitist EV training fans, pff.

Hayato

Gym Leader of Violet City. Was left the gym after his father disappeared on a soul searching journey. Very talented trainer, but very unsure of himself. Dedicated and sophisticated - and rather on the uptight side, as well.

Will update as I create more along the way (and am bothered enough to make crap sprites for them). Yippee. Feel free to throw out more for the Gym Leaders eyyy.

I picked up 'The British Empire and the Second World War' yesterday

Oct. 21st, 2009 | 04:26 pm
music: Touhou Remix - Lunatic Princess | Powered by Last.fm

AND THIS BOOK IS VERY COOL.

Just from the prologue, it's changed and affirmed my opinion of the British Empire of the time of WWII.

For one thing, the centre of the empire, the British Isles, did actually give a crap about the colonies. They fought the entire war around its empire and commonwealth. They wouldn't have even been at war with Japan or Italy if they didn't have Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya, Burma, India, Ceylon, Borneo, Sarawak, Brunei, PNG, the Solomons, the Gilbert and Ellice islands, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Malta, Ionian Islands, Cyrpus, Somaliland, Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME GO ON. But yes, these colonies were right where Italy and Japan intended on expanding their Empires. So they did care about the colonies.

But it was only really a 'oh no resources' thing. When Malaya was occupied, everyone in Britain ran out to but hot water bottles, because 'who knows when we'll get our rubber back!'. So that's pretty 'eh it's Britain' in a way. But it's also affirmed my opinions on how badass the colonials are - and how tight they are as well. Canadians training on Hong Kong island, Africans joining Indians in the Burmese campaign... it's all quite cool.

While it's all about WWII and will be no help for the Gallipoli fic I'm still working out... by jove it really helps give you can idea OF those colonies. In the prologue, Ceylon is mentioned as the badass naval blokes atleast every page, as well as there being a whole chapter devoted to them and the Maldives and Mauritius and Seychelles and Madagascar I ship Seychelles/Mauritius now oh yes. India, of course, has a huge section, and the Africans as well. Even though I plan on focussing on Aus+NZ, Eng+Wales+Scot, Turkey+Germany and Pak+Indo+Bangledesh+Ceylon, Africans are total beast tanks in war so it's pretty mad.

SO AN IDEA HIT ME TODAY

Oct. 12th, 2009 | 07:53 pm

WHILE TAKING A TEN HOUR DRIVE THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS OF NORWAY.

ABOUT ME WRITING AN EPIC MULTI-CHAPTERED FIC ABOUT THE GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN.

Working title and possible summary: 'There was more to Gallipoli than Australia's pretentious 'birth of a nation' bullshit'

STARRING: ENGLAND, WALES, SCOTLAND, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, CANADA, INDIA, PAKISTAN, BANGLADESH, MYANMAR, SRI LANKA, FRANCE, BENIN, COTE'D IVORIE, MALI, SENEGAL, MAURITANIA, BURKINA FASO, TURKEY, GERMANY, PRUSSIA, AUSTRIA, HUNGARY AAAAAND... human people.

WHAT AN ALL-STAR CAST!

Dunno if I could EVER pull it off, but it'd be fun and. yeah, lots of opportunities for cool dynamics with the big fuck off cast and stuff. lmfao none of the african countries would get much screentime, but I have ideas for all the Australian Aboriginals who fought in the ANZACs, and Turkish-Indo 'omgggg you look like me and- OH SHIT YOU'RE AN ENEMY'

SHIT I WANT IN THERE FOR SURE
Emiliana Torrini - Dead Things (Icelandic)
For Norway. The decline of Norway, the 400 year night, where Norway had been ravaged by the Black Plague and his entry into the two unequal Unions of the Kalmar Union (with Sweden and Denmark) and the union with Denmark.

Kings of Convenience - Misread (Norwegian)
Again, for Norway. The relationship with Denmark, I reckon. The lyrics could be taken so angsty, so it would be fodder for all those 'denmark/anyone = hatesex' but It's such a pleasant song so I think that does work better with their relationship.

Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook (Icelandic)
I think I suggested this for Denmark a while ago but. I'M NOT SURE 8( but yes I think it works with the charming, friendly Dane image, and that image of Denmark being that crazy almost prankster guy we have in fandom.

Sigur Ros - Ný Batterí (Icelandic)
'We set off into the unknown // until we destroy // everything and are dominant // once again // once again // once again // once again into the back where we ride'
Doesn't that just scream viking to you omg. Also the verse under that kinda makes me think of... well basically every event that happened to them that could be like 'omg we/I were/was once the/a great viking/s but now that *insert event* has happened we/I are now SHADOWS OF WHAT WE ONCE WERE'. Like WWII. idk I LIKE THIS ONE jonsi's vocals are seriously amazing but dunno where to put it.

Probably? Hey no clue.
Bjork - Álfur Út Úr Hól (Icelandic. Beatles cover.)
Norway? Yeah lmfao ICELANDIC BEATLES COVER QUIET. idk the line 'And his eyes see more // They see a world, a hidden world' does it for me. AND ALSO 11 YEAR OLD BJORK IS THE CUTEST THING EVER ;A; For Serious

Kings of Convenience - Gold In The Air Of Summer (Norwegian)
I like this one man. The lyrics are nice and the 'I can say it's by the sea // It's a house that used to be // the home of a friend of mine' kinda makes me think 'Oh hey, the colonies.' If we had the Faroes and Greenland I would say like, for sure Norway and them, because they have good relations (unlike them and Denmark hurrr) but I guess just Norway and Iceland works too? But yep, not totally sure.

Kings of Convenience - Passenger (you know it's Norwegian)
I FEEL LIKE THIS WOULD FIT SOMEONE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHO. 'If only you and I could trust // Each other through this // Then together we could // Work out who the enemy is' It rings familiar, man. WWII context?

Kings of Convenience - Leaning Against The Wall (I like these guys already)
SAME AS ABOVE. Maybe bastard!Denmark as we all know is ever so popular. Man basically just take a look through all of their songs - they have some really good stuff.

I also think there could be a small section for songs that relate to all the Scandis? Like five songs or so, not as big as the other sections. Because I am absolutely dying to use 'Ruins of my Life' but it applies to all of them. So. And there was another one I came across today but forgot. and declare independance omg. shush they declared independance alot these guys :U

and yeah i know we're supposed to be instrumentalin' but some of these are so good so

THE REPUBLIC OF THE SEVEN UNITED NETHERLANDS: *wins*

Charles X Gustav: *prepares noose*

HEADCANON NOW

Sep. 1st, 2009 | 07:12 pm
music: Jónsi & Alex - Stokkseyri | Powered by Last.fm

OKAY SO.

AUSTRALIA. IN HETALIA

Now what I'm thinking is - I think I've said this before, that there is a 'black' Australia and a 'white' Australia, as this country's media refers to the two population group things.

Now, I reckon white Australia lived with the Aboriginal Australia for all those thousands of years. Maybe not, maybe he only came to being a few centuries before European settlement - maybe when Holland landed. Dunno, but for the first part of his life he was raised by Aboriginal Australia. Part of me likes to think they were brothers, blood related, but idk that may be WRONG, so they could be brothers like... England and whoever are.

and then the mentioned bastard came along with Ireland and his chaps and raised white australia into what he is today. which is creepily like the stolen generations now i think about it. BUT YES and there was betrayal and stuff it's complicated but yeah. THAT'S WHAT I LIKE TO THINK.

Same with America and Canada and their Native populations. Most of the new world regions, kinda. AND I'M JUST MAKING ALL THE THOUSANDS OF TRIBES ONE ENTITY BECAUSE I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON WHO LIKES CONVINIENCE. also it's almost like. countries and states. YEAH. not really but.

yeah.

SO I WANT TO WRITE FIC TO THAT FAIRYTALES PROMPT WITH LIKE. Australia's fairytales always being the dreamtime stories. and then England comes along with his and yep.

Yep?

THE EPIC SCANDINAVIANS POST! All from Insight Guide's book 'Scandinavia'

THE DANES - they're generally warm, witty and welcoming. But they can also be cool and reserved. It depends where you meet them

Danes have two reputations in the world; one at home and another abroad. Outside their homeland, Danes are known as warn, curious, friendly, funny and charming. At home, Danes are seen by foreign visitors as distant, sombre, even cold. They keep to themselves. Danes blame this image on the wet climate. "Not much of our social life happens on the pavements or out in front of the home' says Frans Kjaer Nielsen, a teacher "We spend much of our time indoors with our families and friends"

Inside this thin barrier of social contact, Denmark is one of the warmest countries in the world. People are genuine. They speak their minds, they thrive on making life cosy, relaxing and enjoyable - from festive occasions to mundane coffee breaks. This is what Danish hygge is all about. Hygge (pronounced whoo-guh) stands for any and every sense of cosiness, and is found everywhere in Denmark.

ONLY FOUR OUT OF 100 DANES DO NOT BELONG TO AN ASSOCIATION. "We have a joke that if two Danes sit together for five minutes, they will start an association"

THE NORWEGIANS - Forget the stereotypical image of a cool scandinavian, visitors to Norway can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

Even to their nearest neighbours in Scandinavia, the Norwegians are a bit of a conundrum. To visitors from further afield they offer so many, often conflicting, faces that many leave Norway feeling they haven't even came close to understanding the people. The can be cool almost to the point of rudeness when you first meet them, but once they've got to know you a little their warmth and hospitality are unmistakable. They are slow to offer opinions but when they do their views are forthright. They pride themselves on their internationalism and yet can be incredibly inward looking. Where many people have national pride, for the Norwegians it's a passion. Their way is the best in just about everythingm and if the rest of the world hasn't noticed, well too bad.

Huge paragraphs on how damn self-reliant Norway is here.

okay and moar tomorrow i am. sleepy.

HOLDEN I KNEW YOU WERE ALIIIIIIIIVE

music: Paramore - Misery Business | Powered by Last.fm

So.

I have been thinking more about the headcanon names I've given certain Hetalia characters.
I NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS and explain stuff.

Seychelles - Marise Victore. Marise is a must - It's French, a variant of Marie, which is like, full part of that Latin 'Maris', which means sea. Victore is a kinda... I was considering Séchelles, the last name of the guy the country was named after, but... dunno, a bit obvious. Victore is from Victoria, the country's capital, so. I also like Beaulieu - beautiful place.

Taiwan - Kwan Lin Yun - for Chinese. It used to be Yun Lin, but. It had no basis. Kwan means 'mountain', and Taiwan is quite the mountainous island, Lin is Jade, because lmfao Jade Mountain, and Yun because that sounds nice and suits her, I think. Later on, I'll go find a name that Holland gave her (my headcanon says that when a country colonizes another country, they give them a name of their own language regardless of whether they already have one or not). I'll have to research more for the Aboriginal name, and Japan's name for her is like... Rin? Still Yun? and her last name is Yamakawa - because, hurr, again, mountain. And her trendy English name is like. dunno yet. Julia?

Hong Kong - Still James Kirkland, for colonial days. But as for a Chinese name... man I need help with that. Last name should be Wang, because of the administrative region thing, but first name...

Vietnam - Lê Lien Trinh. Lê is a crazy popular Vietnamese surname, Lien is Lotus, which is the Vietnamese national flower, and Trinh is a legendary Vietnamese female warrior. When under the French rule, it was Vivianne Charbonneau - Charbonneau was someone with dark hair, and Vivianne 'cause it's 'Vi' and pretty.

Belgium - Belle Michiels, I reckon. Belle because lol Belgium, and Michiels is a Belgian surname and. Yep.

I also like Lilia Zwigli for Liechtenstein. an yeah that's about iiiiit.

YEAH GUYS TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. Tell me if I suck yeah.

omgomg

when i was contemplating the possiblility of a sri lanka+seychelles+maldives sistah fic i came upon the exsistance of.

the last british colonies

yes.

So I am creating OCs omg.

Gibralter 'The Rock' - Hispanic/Maltese kinda looking kid with huge bloody eyebrows. He lives with Spain and has been surrouned his whole life by Spanish, Dutch and Silly North Africans. Jewish, in a way, thanks to starting out as town for exiled Jews. England kind of does not know he still exsists. Gibralter still doesn't know why he exsists either. Spain was kind of a possessive dick in WWII when wasn't he. HELLO CEUTA AND MELLILA. I think I should call him Michael/Miguel. All in all, a cheery fellow, despite being ignored by like everyone.

Kiribati - Formerly known as The Gilbert Islands. Twin of Tuvalu/Ellice, despite being Micronesian. Fishing buds with Japan and Taiwan. Both him and his twin are poor, and rely on foreign aid to get by. Used to heavily mine Phosphate, and I mean heavily, so. Has a weird relationship with France, and a weird friendship with Cuba. Overlooked in favour of the dead other Gilbert. Irawaru was his first name, though - now Susan he has no idea what to be called now. Laidback and easy-going, and tends to go with the flow whenever world affairs are at hand - even when being invaded by Japan and used for testing nuclear weapons. Or, when slowly dying.

Tuvalu - Formerly known as The Ellice Islands. Twin of Kirtibati/Gilbert, despite being Polynesian. Closer to the fellow colonies than Kiribati, and is heaps good friends with Taiwan. But Britain is just a total dog to her, and favours Kiribati. Along with most of the islands in the Pacific, is absolutely mortified of climate and is afraid of dying. Along with her own currency, she uses Australia's as well. Several centuries ago, was heavily hit by slave traders. Both her and her brother are small, poor, but are happy. Originally called 'Turua'. Passionate and outspoken, but is usually never actually heard.

Rockall - England's pet rock. It's just such a cool pet rock, Iceland, Ireland and Denmark want it too.

seriously these guys are heaps interesting. lmfao i'll get to the personalities later, FUN FACTS FOR NOW.

yeah and gibralter isn't actually a 'last english colony'. i just wanted to make him eeyyy

ETA: I ADDED SOME PERSONALITY.

oh my god kiribati is going to be the first country to disappear under climate change. djfhhjsdfshj my heart just broke.
but it was also the first country to see the third millenium! and always will be ;A;

And Tuvalu lmfao. The Gilbert Islands didn't want independance and Ellice did, but Ellice is still in the commonwealth while Gilbert isn't. Ahhh too good.
